Hello, Having
visited this website I am posting my own details. I live in
Mexborough, South Yorkshire, England. I was born here, as was my
father, James Herbert Sandland, who served in the Royal Navy
until 1947, and is now 89 years of age. His Father died when he
was quite young but he thinks that he came to South Yorkshire
from Staffordshire, possibly Brownhills. |

Ernest John Sandland who is NOT deceased (thankfully). My mother
is called Diane Elizabeth Edwards. My dad has married twice and
so I have 3 step siblings. One sister called Deborah (Deb)

family is musical. Dad plays the bass, violin and piano. My
mother sings and plays the flute and recorder. Deb has two
albums of her singing out currently and can play the cello. My
brother Dick is extremely good at playing the Tuba and was in
the Royal College of Music in London. And Raz can play the
mandolin, guitar, violin, piano, flute and others that I can't
remember. I can sing rather well and can play the piano and

born in North Wales to Evelyn and Frank Sandland who was born in
Atherton and Tyldsey in Lanchashire. David is brother to Walter,
Frankie and Peter who still live in Wales. David has a sister

dearly love to get in touch with her as no one has heard off her
for 24 year and we unfortunately couldn't get in touch with her
to inform her of her parents death. We now have 5 lovely
children, and would dearly love for her to get in touch. |

Nice website, Kevin.
I'm probably not related, but found a connection with Sandland
this weekend. A distant relative of mine, William Salthouse, was
a gentleman of 4 Clarence Street, Liverpool in the 1820's. My
great great great grandmother was Lucy, wife of another William
Satlhouse who was born in Didsbury in 1818; they lived in nether
Alderley. The same Lucy Salthouse had TB and in 1875 she went to
Kensington Road in Southport, where she died. Two days ago we
went to Southport and drove along Kensington Road. My daughter
noted a name on the terraced row - Sandland Villas (though I
must go back and doublecheck! Today my printer printed out a
queue of papers from a week ago. One page listed William
Salthouse gentleman of 4 Clarence Street, Liverpool. But first I
noticed Elizabeth Sandland, gentlewoman, of 22 Clarence Street,
Liverpool. What a coincidence! Now I have to find out who built
or owned the house in Kensington Road - was it a Sandland? Did
my great grandparents go there because they were relatives? or
friends? So, any connections with Elizabeth Sandland,
gentlewoman, of Liverpool? Best wishes, Hilary. |

This is an update to
my original message that was posted in 2001 to include my move
to Meridian, Idaho and new email address. My father, Milton E.
Sandland, was born in Carpio, ND in 1916. He had 4 brothers,
Alvin, Norman, Joe, Kermit and 2 sisters, Goldie (Folkes) and
Lyla (Agotness). His mother was Gunhild Gilbertson (americanized?)
could be Gundbjornson. She was Born in 1885 in Systad, Norway
and died in 1942 at Carpio, ND. Came to Ellis Island in May from
the port city of Christiania, Norway in 1904. She and her sister
Kjersti worked for the King and Qween of Norway before coming to
the US. My grandmother also worked for Jim Hill, the founder of
the Great Northern Railroad. She married my grandfather, Albert
Sandland, who was born in Lake of the Woods, MN in 1878 and died
in Grand Forks, ND in 1950. My grandfather had 3 sisters, Julie,
Ann and ?, and a twin brother, Edward and another brother
unknown who became a well known home builder in Seattle, WA.
Thanks for any additional information that someone might have so
we will be able to research more of our heritage from Norway.
Just a note that from this message board one of my cousins
contacted me in March, 2004 and hopefully this summer we will be
able to get together for a family reunion. |

My grandfather was
Christian Sandland Evenson - his wife, my grandmother was Anna
Nierson. That may not be the correct spelling of her maiden
name. If it turns out we have the same roots, you will find many
relatives in S.E. MN. Please contact me soon - I am sending this
to you using my wife's email address. |

Nancy: My name
is Joseph Gilroy Sandland, Jr. I was born in 1937. I happened to
be googling for Sandland stuff and I ran across your posting. I
think that I could be your cousin. I remember an Uncle Kermit,
Milton and my Aunt Goldie From when I was a child. I never met
my Grandparents who were from Minot, ND. I was born in Torrance,
CA, and raised in southern California. I have 5 brothers:
Melvin, Stanley, Gabriel, David and Danny. When I was child I
had an uncle Milton who travelled a lot and would occasionally
come to visit. I remember fishing, and one time he bet us kids
that if we finished an enormous ice cream sundae that he would
buy us another. I have a vague memory of camping with the
family, on a lake, where we had a speed boat ride, and stayed
some cabins with the whole family in the 1940s. I live in
Portland, Oregon now and have been curious to find out more
about my Dad's side of the family. If this seems like the same
family to you, please contact me. Thanks - Joseph |

Hi there. I am so
surprised at how many Sandlands there are. I was under the
impression that it was a rare name. I was born and raised in
Southern Minnesota and currently reside in the Minneapolis, MN
area. I am the daughter of Dudley Dwight Sandland and Jean Marie
(Thompson) Sandland. I am the granddaughter of James and the
late Bernice Sandland. I have often thought about tracing my
family history and have made an attempt or two but was not
successful. This is a nice surprise, very inspiring! |
