Details of Service

I served as a regular in the Royal Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) from 1963 until 1972. During that time I completed four and a half years in Germany and the remaining years in England. I was an Electronic Control Equipment Technician (ECE) and most of my friends knew me at that time as 'Sandy Sandland' (some people called me other things, but I do not intend to print them!).

REME Depot, Arborfield - Basic training

Jan 1964 - May 1965

School of Electronic Engineers, Arborfield - Electronics trade course

May 1965 - Jan 1968

REME LAD attached to the Duke of Wellington Regiment (33rd of Foot) - Osnabruck, Germany

Jan 1968 - Jul 1969

REME LAD attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers who became the 1st Btn Royal Regiment of Fusiliers during my attachment - Kirton-in-Lindsey, Lincolnshire

Jul 1969 - Sep 1969

School of Electronic Engineers, Arborfield - Class 1 Electronics Technician course

Sep 1969 - Aug 1972

5 Field Workshops (REME) - firstly in Catterick and then the unit moved to Dortmund, Germany for a while before finally moving into barracks at Soest, Germany

.

I returned to England in August 1972 for my pre-release courses and final leave entitlement. I left the Army in October 1972.
