Subject: RAOC in North Africa in WW2
Message:

I am writing about my father's experiences in WW2 from his letters.  Many army abbreviations in addresses had me puzzled but I have solved them all except M.T.S.C. (followed by R.A.O.C.).  Please can anyone tell me what M.T.S.C. stood for?

Looking for anyone who remembers me especially from Tech QM Dept, HQ 1 (BR) Corps, Bielefeld. 122 Tipper Coy / 15 Sqn RCT, Osnabruck (Scarborough Barracks). MT Troop, 24 Inf Bde HQ and Signal Sqn, Plymouth. I was also in the Gale Platoon intake of 12 Trg Batt RASC, Buller Barracks summer 1964 and then went to 6 Trg Batt RASC in Houndstone Camp, Yeovil. One person I would love to contact again is Dennis Wilcox who I served with in training and then again in the Tech QM Dept, HQ 1(BR) Corps, Bielefeld. Dennis left the army, joined the police in Scotland and then emigrated to Canada.

From: Peter Cooke
Subject: History of RNZEME
Message:

I am writing the official corps history of the RNZEME, and am trying to find information on two REME officers who in WWII were attached to the 2 NZ Division. They were Lt Col McNeil (or MacNeil), OC of 324 Armd Tps Wksp, and his successor Lt Col Whiteley (the unit was renamed 661 ATW in 1944). Any hints as to how to find more on these chaps, both of whom were awarded OBEs. We don't even know their first names! Any tips most welcomed. Cheers - Peter Cooke, Wellington, NZ.

I would be grateful for some help finding out which campaigns my Grandfather fought in during WW2. My Grandfather Stanley Davenport TT Fitter MV (16TTC/61 Sect.) RAOC transferred to REME WEF 1942 was awarded the Italy Star, 1939/45 Star, African Star (BNAF 44OA/44) with1st Army Bar (CMF 2161A/44). Family rumour has it that he was at The Battle of Monte Cassino. Unfortunately his army records tell me little more than the date he embarked for North Africa (29th October 1942). Additionally I have a battered photograph of him in Bari Italy dated 1944. Any and all information would be gratefully received. I can be contacted by e-mail.

From: Kevin Slade
Subject: RASC/REME
Message:

My father, Frank Slade, served with the RASC and REME as a tank transporter driver throughout WW2. He was mainly attached to the 8th Army and served throughout North Africa, Italy and Europe. Sadly, he passed away 37 years ago but I feel that the time has now come to research his war service as a tribute to him. Part of this research involves the uniform and insignia he would have worn. I have only one grainy studio portrait photo of him wearing the typical khaki British battle dress uniform but any insignia worn is unclear. I would be grateful for any information that could be offered concerning this request. Thank you.

Message:

Hello, I'm researching my family tree and am hoping there may be some one on here who knew my late father. His name was Charles Crane and he was in Korea from 2/10/1950 to 18/6/1952 and I remember him mentioning Kure? in Japan. From his old driving licences I found the following addresses: 57 Coy RASC Hargraves Park Camp, Stansted and 46 Coy RASC
Shorncliffe Camp, Kent. I also know he joined at High Leigh on 30/4/1948. If anyone remembers him I would dearly love to hear from you, many thanks.
